Greening Health Care is the leading member-driven, performance-based, health care energy management collective in Canada. The program's 60 hospital sites across Canada are working together to improve energy and water efficiency and reduce solid waste generation. The program reduces costs, contributes to the health and well-being of communities and demonstrates the health care sector's commitment to fiscal and environmental responsibility.

Today there are tremendous pressures on Ontario's Health Care providers to cut costs, address energy shortages and operate more sustainably. Greening Health Care helps hospitals work together to improve energy and water efficiency and reduce solid waste generation.

The foundation of Greening Health Care is cooperation between member hospitals through:

  • Online energy performance management system,

  • Online action planning and benchmarking capabilities,

  • Sharing information and experience in workshops and webinars.

Hospitals in the Greening Health Care program are doing their part to reduce their energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a healthier, more sustainable community.

Join and Be Eligible for the Greening Health Care Awards

Member recognition is a key component of Greening Health Care. Recognition raises profile, enhances organizational image with stakeholders, supports facility staff, and spurs further achievement and cost savings.

Greening Health Care offers two major awards annually:

  • 5% Awards – recognition for member hospitals that achieve 5% in energy and or water savings in a given year, and

  • The GHC Leadership Award – recognizing one health care organization that has been a sector leader in energy and water efficiency over multiple years.

These awards are open to all members of the Greening Health Care Program.

Greening Health Care - Canada Wide

Greening Health Care is offered Canada wide – with quarterly two-hour webinar workshops available for hospitals unable to attend the full day workshops in person. These webinars have been well attended and well received by our members.

You won’t have to leave your desk to hear about the crucial energy and money saving information discussed by members, program sponsors, and regulators at the workshops.
