Highland Creek Watershed Community Participation
Neighbourhood Greening Projects
With funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Toronto and Region Conservation is working with the City of Toronto and community organizations to build the capacity of communities to plan and implement greening projects right in their own neighbourhoods.
Through this project, we will:
- Host education and engagement activities such as planting events, clean ups and educational workshops.
- Help communities develop a vision for neighbourhood greening.
- Develop Neighbourhood Greening Plans for the three neighbourhoods.
- Support the development of "Green Teams" and provide practical resources.
- Help move plans forward from the planning stage to the implementation stage
The three neighbourhood greening project areas are:
Do you live in one of these areas? We want to hear your ideas! Interested in starting your own project? We can provide a number of resources to kick start your greening idea!
Live outside of these areas? No problem! Please scroll down for more ways to get involved or visit our events calendar to join in community events taking place across the Highland Creek watershed.

Take Action!
- Take action right in your back yard! TRCA's Healthy Yards Program provides residents with the inspiration, information and tools required to create naturally beautiful lawns and gardens.
- LEAF's backyard tree program offers native trees and shrubs to homeowners at a subsidized cost.
- Install a rain barrel to capture and reuse water in your yard. Save water and money on your water bill.
- Disconnect your downspout to reduce the amount of water flowing directly to the storm sewer system. Contact the City of Toronto for more information and learn more with the 'Do It Yourself' guide.
- Check out the Resources page for more information.
Environmental Volunteer Network
TRCAs Environmental Volunteer Network (EVN) helps connect anyone interested in volunteering with rewarding volunteer experiences across the Toronto Region. If you would like to get involved, or for more information on the EVN, please click here or contact Dash Paja at dpaja@trca.on.ca
