Duffins & Carruthers Creek Watersheds Community Participation

The residents of Duffins Creek and Carruthers Creek watersheds have inherited a priceless legacy. Our watersheds are healthy with excellent water quality. It is our duty to ensure that this environmental inheritance is passed along to our children with the same integrity it was given to us.

The Duffins Creek Watershed Task Force and The Carruthers Creek Watershed Task Force

In 2000, two separate community Task Forces were set up to address the two watersheds individually. Although the watersheds are separated in this manner, there was great integration and cooperation between the Task Force groups as they worked toward compiling data, assessing conditions, and developing their respective Watershed Management plans to protect and regenerate the watersheds.

The Task Forces were comprised of watershed residents, elected officials, and representatives from government agencies and environmental groups. The role of each Task Force was to develop a watershed management plan to provide direction for future land use planning decisions and management of the watersheds.

The Task Forces evolved into the Duffins and Carruthers Watershed Resource Group. This new watershed committee works on the implementation of the watershed plan.

The implementation of the watershed plan will require the involvement of everyone, including residents, businesses, schools, and all levels of government.
