Stream Flow Monitoring Techniques

This is an introductory one-day course providing an overview of stream monitoring techniques. Topics covered during this course will include theory and sampling techniques for stream flow monitoring, from simple water level loggers to fully automated gauging stations.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is offering an introductory one-day Stream Monitoring Techniques course at Albion Hills Conservation Area. This course is open to students, Conservation Authorities, municipalities, environmental consultants, and NGO's, and is targeted for monitoring coordinators and technical field staff (full-time and seasonal). The in-class portion of the course is meant to provide a better understanding of monitoring networks and will include theory and techniques for stream flow monitoring. The in-field portion of the course will focus on taking manual discharge measurements with flow meters and a stream flow gauge demonstration.

Unfortunately, due to the small number of interested parties, TRCA will not be holding this training course in 2012. We will be re-assessing the delivery of this course, with the intention of developing a long term fixed schedule for course dates (ie: every other year) beginning in 2013.

If you are interested in the 2013 course, please send an email to dsmith@trca.on.ca.
