Description

Students are introduced to the concept of ecosystems by reference to a space capsule and the idea of spaceship earth.

This program helps the students to understand that they are part of the earth's ecosystems and the role they can play to keep them sustainable and healthy.

Activities include analysing the past, present and future of an item, doing the Wetland values game,a bug hunt to investigate decomposers and using binoculars to investigate the biodiversity of the forest,the Humber River, and the Kortright Marsh.

The Dynamic Nature of ecosystems is touched upon in the context of river erosion, formation of oxbow lakes and the succession of vegetation in various locations.
