Frequently Asked Questions
What is the value of a bus grant?
Each grant is valued at CAD $250.
Will TRCA arrange transportation between my school and the facility?
No, teachers are responsible for arranging their own transportation between the school and our facility.
Will TRCA send the grant amount directly to the bus company?
No, we will apply the grant amount to the final balance due on your visit. Teachers are responsible for remitting payment to the bus company.
How are bus grant recipients selected?
Bus grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis to those who qualify. All you need to do is request one when you call to book your trip to one or more of our facilities listed above. If it is determined that your class meets the necessary eligibility requirements and we still have undistributed grants, one will be allocated to you. However, it is important to note that your bus grant is not confirmed until you have paid the applicable deposit by December 21, 2012.
What happens if I do not pay the applicable deposit by December 21, 2012?
TRCA reserves the right to reassign your bus grant to another qualifying class if your deposit is not received by the stipulated deadline.
How early should I book to ensure my class receives a bus grant?
The number of bus grants is limited and we cannot guarantee their availability up until the December 21 deadline. As such, we suggest booking as early as possible to increase your chances of securing one of the grants.
Will there be a wait list once all the grants have been allocated?
Yes, a wait list will be created in case cancellations or missed deposit payments result in some previously allocated grants to become available again. Your class, once deemed eligible, will be placed on the wait list if a grant is not available at the time of booking and we will keep you informed of any changes.
Can a school qualify for more than one grant?
Any one school can qualify for a maximum of one grant of each type during the program period. For example, a school may receive one grant to Kortright Centre for Conservation and one grant to a Field Centre during the same period, but will not be eligible for two grants to a Field Centre.
Are bus grants available for visits to Black Creek Pioneer Village?
Bus grants are only available for visits to Kortright Centre for Conservation or to our three Field Centres at this time.
Why are the bus grants restricted to schools from the Toronto and Durham regions?
The geographical restrictions have been put in place to ensure the funds are distributed in a way that reflects and respects the spirit in which they were given.
How many years has the School Field Trip Bus Grant Program been running?
This is the third year in which TRCA is offering bus grants to help reduce or eliminate the cost of transportation for classes who wish to experience nature-based education programming at Kortright Centre for Conservation or at one of our three Field Centres.
