Lake Ontario Waterfront Projects & Plans
Port Union Waterfront Park Project will result in the creation of a unique park amenity on the Lake Ontario waterfront between Highland Creek and the Rouge River. The implementation of this project will include improved recreational access to the waterfront, 3.8 km of new waterfront trail, shoreline protection and the creation of additional terrestrial and aquatic habitat. Construction on Phase 2 continues with completion expected in fall 2012. Phase 1 of Port Union Waterfront Park has been enjoyed by the public since 2006.
The Mimico Waterfront Park Project will result in the creation of park space and waterfront trail along the shoreline between Humber Bay Park West and Norris Crescent Parkette, within the City of Toronto. The features of this park include 1.1 km of new waterfront trail, cantilevered boardwalks, sand dune feature for beach volleyball, and cobble beaches. Terrestrial and aquatic habitat enhancements include the formation of a sheltered embayment at Amos Waites Park. The first phase of the park was completed in summer 2008. Phase 2 is under construction and is expected to open to the public in fall 2012.
