Leaders in Partners in Project Green to Discuss Best Practices in Developing and Implementing Corporate Sustainability Plans

Oct 12, 2010

MEDIA ADVISORY

For Immediate Distribution

(TORONTO - October 12) On October 14th Partners in Project Green and Bullfrog Power® invite the media to attend Greener Horizons, an evening of networking and learning in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone. The evening will include an interactive panel discussion with corporate leaders in sustainability. Panellists from a variety of industries will provide real-world case studies and key learnings from their experiences in moving towards environmental sustainability. In addition to the panel's inspiring and thought provoking ideas, the evening will also include the launch of an exciting new Partners in Project Green program - The Smart Commute Pearson Airport Area.  This program will help businesses provide their employees with sustainable commuting options and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The panel will discuss strategies for navigating the landscape to help organizations define and implement a sustainability plan. The discussions will explore:

  • How to set priorities among the vast array of possibilities for reducing a company's environmental impact
  • How to reconfigure a business for long-term sustainability
  • How to balance the interests of stakeholders within and outside the organization
  • What the best practices are for delivering long-term results that align corporate citizenship goals with economic drivers

The evening is co-hosted by Bullfrog Power, Partners in Project Green's preferred green energy provider. This past April, both organizations launched the Green Power Challenge, encouraging businesses in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone to achieve a collective goal of greening 58,000 MWh of electricity. Many leaders within the area have already contributed to meeting this goal. Most recently, TD Bank Financial Group, GWL Realty Advisors and Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada joined the challenge. By signing on for green electricity with Bullfrog Power, organizations will not only reduce their environmental impact, but will also support the development of new wind power in the province and help demonstrate to the international community that Toronto's private sector is working together to address climate change and air pollution.

The evening's activities will also include tours of AeroCentre V, which is the Pearson Eco-Business Zone's latest LEED building.  The building mitigates its environmental impacts by leveraging rainwater collection and low-flow fixtures to reduce demand on municipal water, employing strategies to reduce urban heat island effect, and installing low-emitting interior finishes. Use of under-floor air distribution and provision of natural light sources with controlled shading provide opportunities for reduced energy consumption over typical office buildings while enhancing occupant comfort.
