Volunteer Tree Tender graduates help lead community tree planting in Vaughan

(September 30, Toronto)  On Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 10:00 am Amanda Gomm, Manager, Manager, Volunteers and Community Engagement, LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) and Natalie Swaak, Toronto Region Conservation (TRCA) will lead a community tree and shrub planting event in a meadow behind Vaughan's Nevada Park, 101 Nevada Crescent (Kirby Rd and Dufferin). The planting is designed to enhance and improve the forest cover of Nevada Park.

Joining the event will be several graduates of LEAF's Tree Tender Volunteer Training Program, a 15 hour training program designed for individuals who want to gain tree-related knowledge and skills. The Tree Tenders will teach community members from Vaughan proper planting and tree care techniques.

Following the planting, TRCA will lead a short hike to see the fall colours and learn about what plants and animals do when the seasons change.

WHERE:       Eastern end of Nevada Park, 101 Nevada Crescent (Kirby Rd and Dufferin St.), Vaughan

Meet at the eastern entrance to Nevada Park, 101 Nevada Cres.,Vaughan. Street parking is available along Nevada Cres.
