Public Farm Days and New Farmers Market Set at McVean Farm

Aug 17, 2010

(TORONTO, August 17, 2010) -  The public is invited to spend the day at McVean Farm to tour, taste, participate in fun activities and meet the farmers on  Sunday, August 29. Also, new this summer, farmers from the McVean Farm will have their fresh-picked, organically grown produce available for sale on-site at the McVean Farmer's Market. The market will be held every Saturday until September and will include a variety of crops available for sale from a diverse group of farmers.

The farm, located in the north-end of Brampton, consists of 37 acres of historical agricultural Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) property leased to FarmStart. In partnership with TRCA, FarmStart is giving up-and-coming farmers access to land, equipment, and infrastructure during the first years of their farm business start-up. This year, 19 new farmers are digging in with 11 different farm enterprises on-site to bring healthy, fresh produce to the public.
