CHILDREN LEARN ENERGY CONSERVATION AT KORTRIGHT CENTRE
Apr 06, 2007
One hundred Grade 5 students from two schools in York Region will visit Kortright Centre for Conservation on April 11 as part of the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Program. Clean Air Champion Jody Holden, beach volleyball competitor at the 2000 Olympic Games, will join them.
The April 11 event is part of the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Program, a collaboration between Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), the York Region and York Catholic District School Boards, Ontario EcoSchools, York Region Health Services, and The Clean Air Partnership. An exciting field trip to Kortright Centre for Conservation is designed to enable young Canadians to participate in the Conservation of Energy program, to enrich their learning of the natural world, and to serve as an incentive and reward at the end of the program for participating teachers and students.
During the 2006/07 school year, the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Project has been helping promote energy-wise choices and lifestyles to students in the York Region and York Catholic District School Boards. It reaches 1,100 Grade 5 students in 41 classes through special resources for teachers, classroom lessons that connect students to their school's energy saving activities with Ontario EcoSchools resources, activities to save energy at home with an Energy Toolkit, and the 20/20 The Way to Clean Air Student Planner.
TRCA's Kortright Centre for Conservation is the home of Canada's largest collection of educational renewable energy demonstrations.
