Fifth Annual Sunny Days for Conservation raises funds for children's outdoor education and accessible outdoor recreation in Durham

Mar 11, 2014

MEDIA ADVISORY

For Immediate Release

On March 20, Toronto and Region Conservation and Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility will host the annual Sunny Days for Conservation, an environmental fundraising event with emcee Ken Shaw of CTV News. Headlining the event is legendary Canadian rock band, Lighthouse, back for the event's fifth anniversary. For a $200 ticket, guests get a three-course dinner with wine, an intimate concert with Lighthouse, a charitable tax receipt for $102--and contribute to making outdoor recreation in Durham accessible for everyone

"We're excited to have Lighthouse back at this year's Sunny Days for Conservation. This event has been a great success for the past four years. It's a fun, relaxed evening and a great way to support making outdoor education and trails accessible to people with different abilities," said Ron Halliday, of the Abilities Centre, and a Durham Region resident.

All proceeds go to The Living City Foundation to retrofit Claremont Outdoor Education Centre and nearby trails to be more accessible, so people of various ability levels will be able to experience outdoor education programs at this TRCA facility. Located on Duffins Creek, this residential centre offers a wide range of environmental programs providing elementary and high school students with hands-on learning experiences.

Working with various partners, TRCA leads a variety of conservation initiatives, including environmental education, outdoor recreation, habitat restoration and community stewardship.
