Sunny Days for Conservations Shines Light on Accessible Outdoor Education and Trails in Durham

Apr 25, 2013

For Immediate Release

(Ajax, Pickering, Uxbridge- April 25, 2013) - On May 2, Toronto and Region Conservation and Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility will host the second annual Sunny Days for Conservation, an environmental fundraising event with emcee Terry Johnston of CKDO radio FM. Headlining the event is Murray McLauchlan, one of Canada's most prolific singer-songwriters.

"Sunny Days for Conservation has been a great success for three years in a row. It's a fun, relaxed evening where people come together who agree that making outdoor education and trails accessible to people with different ability is important," said Ron Halliday, of Coughlan Homes, and a Durham Region resident.

All proceeds from the event go to The Living City Foundation to support hands-on projects undertaken by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) in Durham Region. Specifically, Sunny Days for Conservation will raise funds for Claremont Outdoor Education Centre and trails.

Funds raised will help to retrofit the building and trails at the centre so that people of various ability levels will be able to experience outdoor education programs at this TRCA facility. Located on Duffins Creek, this residential centre offers a wide range of environmental programs providing elementary and high school students with hands-on learning experiences.

Working with various partners, TRCA leads a variety of conservation initiatives, including environmental education, outdoor recreation, habitat restoration and community stewardship.
