MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Distribution

(TORONTO - May 22, 2012) In the summer of 2012, 50 internationally trained environmental engineers and geoscientists will begin their road to success with the 2012-2014 Professional Access and Integration Enhancement (PAIE) Program, the only employer-led Ontario Bridge Training Program designed to connect employers with highly skilled internationally trained Engineers and Geoscientists. PAIE is currently recruiting participants. The application deadline is Thursday, May 31, 2012. Please visit our website at www.trca.on.ca/paie for program information, including eligibility criteria and application instructions.

PAIE is developed by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) in collaboration with Professional Engineers Ontario and the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.  The program links employers in TRCA's network with highly skilled candidates to fulfill hiring needs in the environmental sector, while helping newcomers to obtain valuable Canadian experience and obtain a professional license as a P.Eng. or P.Geo.

"PAIE is a part of TRCA's efforts to promote social equity by improving access to environmental professions for skilled newcomers," said Brian Denney, CAO, Toronto and Region Conservation. "We've seen a high rate of success and we are proud to announce that 92% of our program graduates are now working in their field, earning an average income of $55,000 in their first year on the job. This is also a great opportunity for employers to gain access to a pool of highly qualified and experienced individuals who bring a global perspective to their jobs, and to fulfill current and projected hiring needs."

The PAIE Program includes over 250 hours of targeted professional training that includes Technical Report Writing, Project Management, Canadian Legislation and Regulations, Current Industry Practices, Technical Software, Career Development Coaching, Field Excursions, etc.  Participants of the PAIE Program also gain access to paid, professional employment opportunities in TRCA's vast employer network for P.Eng. or P.Geo. licensure.

Employers interested in providing work placement opportunities to PAIE participants will benefit from TRCA's professional participant recruitment, screening and selection process, personalized matching services, on-going participant support and training, and complimentary diversity and intercultural communication training for staff.

The PAIE Program is working in collaboration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO), Ryerson University, A2Z Technical Services Ltd., and MCB Solutions.
