May 02, 2012

MEDIA ADVISORY

For Immediate Release

(Ajax, Pickering, May 2, 2012)

Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) is hosting an open house for local residents to learn about the proposed Greenwood Conservation Lands and provide feedback on the Master Plan. TRCA is working in partnership with municipal staff from the City of Pickering, Town of Ajax and Region of Durham to complete and implement the restoration plan which will provide recreational green spaces in Durham Region that is in harmony with the ecosystems of the property.

The new Greenwood Conservation Lands, formerly known as the Brock Lands and Greenwood Conservation Area, will result in the creation of green space measuring 689 hectares (1,704 acres).  The restored site will feature a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, cross country skiing, angling, leashed dog walking and nature viewing experiences.

At the open house the public will learn about the recently acquired Brock Lands and the Greenwood Conservation Lands Master Plan process and hear about the proposed Management Zones for the property (including Draft Recreation and Trail Plan).
