Teeing up for a Greener Etobicoke at the Etobicoke and Mimico Creek Watershed

Apr 25, 2012

MEDIA ADVISORY

(TORONTO - April 25, 2012) Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) is hosting the Etobicoke and Mimico Creek Watershed Charity Fundraising Golf Tournament at the Royal Woodbine Golf and Country Club on May 10th. All proceeds will go directly to The Living City Foundation to support TRCA's environmental restoration projects in the Etobicoke and Mimico Creeks watersheds. The Etobicoke and Mimico Creeks are two of the most highly developed, and therefore degraded, watersheds in the Toronto area.

Funds raised from this event will enhance the ability of TRCA to improve the natural systems in these watersheds. Some key issues hindering the Etobicoke and Mimico Creek Watershed include: changes in ground and surface water volumes and flows resulting from water contamination, flooding, and erosion; lack of storm water control; loss of forests, tributaries, and wetlands; Impaired condition of flora, fauna, and aquatic species; and Altered landscapes through settlement, urban development and aggregate extraction.

What: Etobicoke and Mimico Creeks Charity Golf Tournament at Royal Woodbine Golf Course with cart, lunch, dinner, prizes, 'Beat the Pro' with Karin Mundinger former LPGA Touring Professional and CPGA Teaching Pro, putting contest, raffle prizes at each hole, silent auction and much more! In addition, all participants at the event will have the opportunity to purchase the "Passport to Golf" which includes two raffle tickets, entry into the longest drive competition and other contests, and a golfer's grab bag. A tax receipt will be issued for the charitable portion of the ticket price.
