Green Economy Gets More Diverse with New Graduates from Toronto and Region Conservation's Ontario Bridge Training Program

Mar 26, 2012

(TORONTO - March 26, 2012) On March 28, Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) will be hosting an event to celebrate the successful completion of the (PAIE) Program by 43 Internationally Trained Environmental Engineers and Geoscientists representing Pakistan, Italy, Nepal, Zambia, Philippines, Trinidad, Ethiopia, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, India, Peru, Nigeria, San Salvador and China. More than 500 applicants had applied to this innovative program that gives employers access to highly skilled professionals while helping newcomers to obtain valuable Canadian experience and assisting them in obtaining a professional license as a P.Eng. or P.Geo. in Ontario.  The program was developed by TRCA in collaboration with Professional Engineers Ontario and the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

The PAIE Program provided participants with 150 hours of professional communications and soft skills training, 80 hours of industry-specific technical training workshops, 24 hours of project management instruction, and a series of hands-on field excursions led by TRCA and industry experts.  In addition, the program offered highly-skilled 12-month paid engineering work placements with host employers in the public and private sectors. Over 90% of PAIE graduates have gained employment in their professional field, earning an average of $55,000 annually.
