ecoCaledon and Toronto and Region Conservation are Calling all Artists to Take Part in Caledon's Second Rain Barrel Artist's Collection

Mar 15, 2012

Media Release

For Immediate Distribution

TORONTO, March 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Rain barrels are often seen as characterless and boring.  Paint a Picture for Water Conservation aims to transform this normally drab outdoor feature into a masterpiece for the garden.  We need your help to do this!  Artists, students, and creative Caledonians are asked to submit ideas for an artistic rain barrel design.

Help Caledon make a statement!  Your challenge is to create a beautiful rain barrel design that would fit into any garden setting. Applications are due March 26th, 2012.

10 designs will be chosen and painted with your help.  Decorated rain barrels will be displayed for one month at high traffic areas in the community starting on May 7.  Throughout the month people can place online bids for their favorite barrels. On June 16th, Caledon Day, the online auction will close. Proceeds from this auction will be used to support the environmental education efforts of ecoCaledon.

The overarching goals of this project are three-fold; to promote the use of rain barrels for single family dwellings, to promote water conservation, and to educate the public on the positive impact that they can have on the health of our local rivers through the re-use of rain water at home.
